As business owners and managers, we’re faced with ensuring our organizations have the right resources to address our current needs and anticipating what we require for future success and organization longevity. I think we all can agree; our most important resource is our people.  We need to attract candidates that not only have the appropriate skills but also candidates that can support our companies’ goals and objectives and individuals who will thrive in each organization’s unique working culture. This is no easy feat with the rapidly evolving recruiting and work landscapes.

Microsoft's new product release Dynamics 365 for Talent is a series of modular applications to supplement your current Dynamics 365 solutions addressing key tasks in recruiting candidates, hiring staff and fostering employee development. Talent does provide some of the same functionality as Human Resources in Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations. However, if you’re not using Finance and Operations, Talent may just be the solution for your key Human Capital Management tasks.

The first module in Dynamics 365 for Talent is Attract which focuses on the recruitment process including job postings, candidate applications and selection processes.

Please note that we have not tested or reviewed the candidate’s experience using the Talent portal. The portal's intent is to keep candidates apprised of their status in the hiring journey.

Here is the full scorecard of what I thought of Talent Attract from an employer’s perspective during our test run of the application.

Usability

Talent Attract uses the familiar Dynamics 365 user interface. You can easily find key functions and it is simple to work with- especially for those coming to the system with an understanding of basic recruiting tasks. Don’t worry though, if you forget a step or you aren’t too sure what you can do, there are prompts in the application.  What’s really great is that all your comprehensive recruiting records and data are stored within Dynamics 365 and accessible through the Attract solution.

Talent Attract comes with some nifty features to capitalize on your existing recruitment efforts:

  • Complete integration with LinkedIn Recruiter
    Job postings are posted to Linked In with a click of a button. When candidates apply through LinkedIn, their application contains links to their LinkedIn profiles, providing you with access to more information than just their resumes and covering letters.
  • Customizable Hiring Process Templates
    Define the candidate journey through the stages of your hiring processes for groups of positions, or individual jobs. Stages can include automated emails to candidates, interviews, assessments, and internal team decision meetings. You determine when and if candidates advance through the stages and can see decisions and hiring team input directly in the process interface.
  • Outlook Functionality
    I personally really like this integration in Talent Attract, as it takes the headaches out of scheduling interviews with multiple hiring team members. Reach out to candidates to determine availability and see all hiring team’s calendars at once to identify the best time(s) to schedule, eliminating some of the inevitable back and forth. All without leaving Talent Attract.
  • Hiring Team Collaboration
    Within the Job Process, there’s an area for all team members to make note of their impressions and opinions. These notes can be visible to all team members and you can see comments directly in the different stages of the job process.

Talent Attract is a first release product. There are components of Attract I hope mature with future updates:

  • During our testing there wasn’t the ability to customize the automated emails being sent to candidates as much as most organizations will hope for to advocate corporate branding and cultural tone.
  • Within the current interface candidate records are linked to specific postings. There isn’t yet “out of the box” views of entire candidate pools or sorted views by skill sets.
  • The advancement of candidates through the stages of a job process is only manual, providing the recruiter control. This seems appropriate in most cases as you review a candidate compatibility with an open position. However, it could be justified to have some automated stage advancement through the process.  Perhaps it depends on what hiring stages your organization uses.

Roadmap

The roadmap for Dynamics 365 for Talent is intriguing and looks at modular applications in combination. Currently only Attract and Onboard are available. Future modular applications, (one in technical review at present) speak to testing, performance assessment and feedback, as well as career development. It is difficult currently to determine when other applications will be available and how well the complete Talent Product addresses Human Capital Management core functions and current pain points. Regarding Attract, additional job board integrations are currently in development.

In keeping with Microsoft’s cloud based SAAS products, new features are added to the Dynamics 365 for Talent modular applications as they become available. I for one am looking forward to seeing both the new features in each application and how the full Talent offering works together. As a new product Talent Attract has a robust and active community of users with suggestions being provided to the developers. Ideas, Community and Issue Reporting are all accessed through Help icon in the application.  

Stability

I didn’t experience any stability issues while working with Talent Attract. As previously mentioned you can report any issues, or ideas for functionality the application’s Help icon.

Value For Money

Current pricing for each of the available modular applications, Attract or Onboard is $9.70 per month per user for our Canadian followers and only $8.00 per month per user for those in the United States. When you purchase both Attract and Onboard the price is $14.60 per month per user in Canada and $12.00 in the United States.  

If you are currently looking to digitally transform your recruiting activities and use a Dynamics 365 solution, then Talent Attract is an excellent choice to consider and build upon.
